Online cycling coaching · since 1997

You're putting in the hours. Is your training actually paying off?

Most serious cyclists over 40 don't need more random workouts or another generic plan. They need power-based coaching built around their own data, their recovery, and their real life.

CycleCoach tests you, writes your plan, and adjusts your training as your numbers, goals, work, illness and recovery change. You get a real coach across your training — not an app handing everyone the same week.

Is this you?

CycleCoach specialises in serious riders — especially masters cyclists, racers and time-crunched endurance athletes.

  • Masters cyclists (40+). Training that respects recovery, builds durability, and holds or raises your FTP through your 40s, 50s and beyond. Ric is in his 43rd consecutive racing season — this is lived, not theoretical.
  • Racers and time triallists. Power-based periodisation aimed at a result: crit, road race, TT, or a target event.
  • Sportive, gravel and endurance riders. Structured build toward a specific ride, from a first century to an ultra-distance event.
  • Riders new to structured training. Never trained with power or a plan? We start with testing and build from there — no assumed knowledge.
  • Triathletes. Specialist bike development inside a multisport schedule.

Which level is right for you?

Every plan is power-based and built around the MAP test. The difference between levels is depth of support, contact, review, strength & conditioning, and nutrition. Most riders who want proper one-to-one coaching start with Silver.

  • Bronze Personalised MAP-based training with a named coach, monthly review and group-based WhatsApp support. Questions answered by whichever coach is available. £99/mo
  • Gold Higher-support one-to-one coaching with Ric, Neil or Charlotte. Deeper review, more frequent contact and nutrition macros. £250/mo
  • Rainbow High-touch coaching with Ric or Neil. Daily nutrition matched to training, near-daily access and every session analysed. £395/mo
  • Platinum Ric-only maximum-support package: unlimited calls, unlimited plan changes, every session analysed, daily nutrition, priority access and three in-person camps per year. £899/mo

How online coaching works

  • We test. You do the right test for you — a MAP ramp test and others as needed. That sets your real training zones from your own numbers, not borrowed ones.
  • We plan. Your programme is written in TrainingPeaks, built around your hours, your goal, and your starting point.
  • We adjust. When work, illness, fatigue or travel gets in the way, the plan changes. Recovery is driven by your data and how you feel, not a fixed calendar.
  • We stay in contact. How much contact depends on your level. You're never posting sessions into a void.

Coaching is delivered by Ric and by senior associate coaches Neil (Italy) and Charlotte (Canada). We coach riders worldwide.

Common questions

Do I need a power meter?

No — but it makes the coaching better. Power gives us the most precise way to test, prescribe and measure. If you don't have a meter we'll still coach you effectively and can advise when you're ready.

How many hours a week do I need?

Most of our riders train 6–12 hours. We build the plan around the time you actually have, not an ideal week.

Is this suitable for cyclists over 40?

It's a core part of what we do. Masters training — recovery, durability, holding FTP — is a specialism, not an afterthought. Ric is a masters racer himself.

What happens if work or illness interrupts my training?

The plan adjusts. That's the point of coaching over a fixed plan — we respond to your real week, not an idealised one.

Do you coach riders outside the UK?

Yes. We coach worldwide, with associate coaches in Italy and Canada. Everything is delivered online through TrainingPeaks.

Which level should I choose?

If you want full one-to-one coaching, start with Silver. If you want coaching on a budget, choose Bronze. If you want more contact and nutrition support, choose Gold or above. If you want the highest-touch package with Ric — unlimited calls, every session analysed, in-person camps — that's Platinum. If you'd rather train with structure but without one-to-one coaching, try MAP: The Build from £25. Still unsure? Book a free 15-minute call and Ric will give you an honest steer.

Not sure which level fits?

Book a free 15-minute call with Ric. Tell him your goal, your typical weekly hours, and what has or hasn't worked before. He'll give you an honest steer on the right level — even if that means starting lower.
