Who I Coach

I've been coaching cyclists since 1997. In that time I've worked with World Champions, Paralympic medalists, the two-time winner of the Transcontinental Race, riders on national programs, and plenty of people who just want to get faster without getting dropped by their mates.

The range is massive:

  • Masters racers in their 40s, 50s, 60s+

  • Time triallists from local 10s to national championships

  • Road and crit racers (juniors through to elite)

  • Gravel and ultra-endurance riders

  • Triathletes wanting to make the bike their strength

  • Paracyclists competing internationally

  • Weekend riders chasing Strava PRs or sportive goals

Some are chasing podiums. Some just want structure. All of them get coaching based on what actually works - not theory, not trends, but evidence-based training refined over nearly three decades.

How I Coach

Everything is custom and power-based. No templates. No one-size-fits-all plans.

Your training gets built around your goals, your available time, your strengths, your limiters, and what's actually realistic for your life. It evolves as you do - whether you're coming back from illness, building for a peak event, or just trying to maintain fitness through a busy period.

I've published peer-reviewed research, invented the MAP test used by Zwift and Rouvy, and maintained the same VO2max for 30+ years with power data going back to 1994. I know what works because I've lived it and coached it at every level.

Some Results

Michael Freiberg - 2011 Elite Men's Omnium World Champion. Coached him to that gold medal.

James Hayden - Two-time Transcontinental Race winner (2017, 2018). When ITV interviewed him about his wins, he insisted I be there with him on camera.

Ollie Robinson - Riding for Novapor UCI Continental Team. After 11 weeks: all-time 5-min power PR, highest 20-min power in 2.5 years.

Jeff Jones - British Best All Rounder 2011, World Record 12hr TT. "I got more out of myself than I ever thought possible."

John Lowe - 6th at National 24hr TT Champs, PBs at 50 miles, 100 miles, 12 hours, and 24 hours in a single season.

Plus riders on GB, Australian, Irish, and other national programs. Paralympic medalists. Masters racers setting age-group records. First-time racers who came last for years before breaking through.
